In a surprising move, Paizo announced last week that the next volume in the popular Pathfinder Adventure Card Game series, Mummy’s Mask, has been delayed from its original February 2016 window.
Delays happen all the time, though. What makes this unique is that Paizo is seemingly abandoning their aggressive bi-annual PACG schedule, citing marketplace and fan demands to slow things down as their primary motivator for the decision.
“Since the [Mummy’s Mask] announcement, we’ve received a lot of feedback from customers, retailers and distributors that our release schedule is outpacing all but our most enthusiastic players. People are still playing Skull & Shackles, or even Rise of the Runelords, and they aren’t ready for a new set yet. So we’ve decided to delay Mummy’s Mask until we feel the market is ready. That may mean July, and it may mean October, but it definitely doesn’t mean February. When we commit to a firm date, we’ll let you know. But fear not — it will come.” – Mike Selinker
In it’s place, Paizo has announced a new organized play campaign, Season of the Runelords, utilizing the original Rise of the Runelords box set in a new and exciting way. Hopefully this will satisfy rabid PACG players, myself included, until Mummy’s Mask finally ships.
It’s unclear when Mummy’s Mask will be released now, though GenCon 2016 is what I would bet my money on.
