One more quarter, just one more quarter…
Z-Man Games is looking to capture that old-school, quarter-sinking arcade nostalgia with the upcoming Battle at Kemble’s Cascade, the board game adaptation of shoot ’em up (a.k.a. shmup) games like Space Invaders and Centipede.
The game plays out on a scrolling space-themed board, continually pouring out new enemies and obstacles to contend with. You’ll have to zigzag through asteroids and mines to hunt down the enemy before your opponent. And of course, like any good shmup, you’ll have to deal with the massive boss at the end of the level as well.
There’s even a scoreboard to immortalize your high scores. Hot damn, I’m sold.
On the surface, The Battle at Kemble’s Cascade appears to be a wonderful love letter to that beloved era of spending far too much time and money at the local arcade. As a childhood arcade rat, my interest is certainly piqued; I’ve already begun stashing my spare quarters, as that seems like the most appropriate method of purchasing Kemble’s Cascade.
Designed by Anders and Olle Tyrland, The Battle at Kemble’s Cascade will ship this August at GenCon 2014. Z-Man Games released a trailer earlier today, which you can find below.
